REGULATIONS FOR CLASSES IN THE SUBJECT

 

Anatomy

For Students 1-st year of medical studies conducted

in Department Anatomy Department

The Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze

in the academic year 2024/2025

 

 

 

Classes in the subject of Anatomy are conducted on the basis of o Study Regulations of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, constituting the Appendix 1 to Resolution 37/2024 of the Senate of SUM of June 18 june, 2024. and these Regulations.

 

I.      Principles of participation in the classes

 

  • Classes (lectures, seminars, exercises) are held according to the schedule set by the Dean. In terms of remote classes, it is allowed to change the date of the classes by the Head of the Unit - information about the date and the platform used is announced on the Unit's website.
  • Participation in lectures, seminars and exercises is obligatory.
  • The student is obliged to participate in classes with the student group to which he has been assigned for the given academic year.
  • The student is obliged to arrive on time for classes conducted in the form of stationary and to log in to the e-learning system on time in the case of classes conducted with the use of distance learning techniques and methods.
  • Students who have symptoms suggestive of infection, including viral infection (i.e. fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, nasal discharge, smell / taste disturbances, headache, general breakdown, weakness, etc.) cannot participate in the classes at the University).
  • During classes at the University, the Student:

- is obliged to comply with the health and safety rules.

- is obliged to use personal protective equipment in accordance with the guidelines of the Unit

- should take care of the place where classes are conducted, including the order and proper condition of the devices they use. Any noticed defects should be reported to the academic teacher conducting the classes. In the event of damage, a Medical Equipment Damage Protocol is prepared. Students of a given group / section are financially responsible for any shortages of materials and instruments found after the end of the exercises, as well as for damage to equipment.

- should not: eat meals in the place where classes are conducted, use cell phones or other electronic equipment or bring unnecessary personal belongings to be left in the cloakroom.

  • The student is obliged to prepare theoretical for classes in accordance with the planned subject matter, based on the given literature. Failure to prepare for the classes will be equivalent to failing them.
  • It is strictly forbidden to bring and use electronic devices and audiovisual registration during the course of classes and final credits in the Student's course.
  • All teaching materials are protected by copyright in terms of intellectual property. Violation of copyright and the right to protect the image (recording, photographing, copying, recording) will result in the initiation of disciplinary proceedings.
  • On the website of the Department you can find:

II.    Rules for justifying absences from classes and doing their homework

 

  1. Every absence from classes must be excused by presenting the teacher to the classes immediately, or within 5 working days after the cause of the absence ceases to exist, an appropriate document (medical certificate, court certificate, etc.)
  2. Justifying absences from classes is carried out in accordance with par. 15 of the Rules of Study at SUM
  3. Classes missed for justified reasons should be done with another exercise group on the date agreed with the Head of the Unit.
  4. In the event of absence from the classes, the Student is obliged to proceed with the verification of the obtained learning outcomes on the terms and within the time limits set by the Head of the Unit or a person authorized by him.

 

III.  Rules for completing the classes

 

 

  • The condition for obtaining credit for classes in the subject is participation in all planned forms of classes (lectures, seminars, exercises) and obtaining positive grades from all partial tests (oral or written) checking the learning outcomes
  • If the Student is absent from the partial credit for the course within the prescribed period, he / she may report for the next fixed date, treated as a resit.
  • The student has the right to a double improvement of each partial credit.
  • In the event of failure to pass the retake tests, the Student has the right to take a final test (oral or written) from the entire material included in the program of classes (exercises / seminars).
  • Failure to report the test by the Student by the Head of the Unit results in the loss of the completion date.
  • A student who has not obtained a credit for a course in a subject will not be allowed to take the exam on the first date, obtaining an unsatisfactory grade on the first date of the exam.

 

IV. Rules for completing continuing subjects (internal diseases, paediatrics, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics)

 

  • Classes in continued subjects end each year (except for the 6th year) with verification of the learning outcomes obtained in terms of knowledge and practical skills.
  • Knowledge will be checked by means of a test, uniform for all students of a given year, conducted before the session begins, after the completion of all blocks in the subject provided for in the plan of the given academic year.
  • The test date will be announced by 01/05/2023.
  • The test will consist of 30 single-choice questions. The questions will be prepared by the units that conducted classes in a given year, in consultation with the Course Coordinator, and will cover the scope of the material carried out in the year to be verified, included in the lectures, seminars, exercises and the recommended textbook.
  • To obtain credit, it is required to give 70% (ie 21) correct answers. There is no possibility of lowering the above-mentioned percentage threshold.
  • If an unsatisfactory grade is obtained within the first time limit, the Student is entitled to two retake credits on the dates set by the Course Coordinator.
  • Learning outcomes in terms of skills will be assessed during the implementation of individual blocks in the subject by teachers conducting the classes and they will be passed on to the final classes in the subject.
  • The condition for obtaining a credit in continued subjects is a positive evaluation of both of the above-mentioned forms of verification.

 

 

V.   Rules for completing the course

 

  1. The condition for taking the exam is getting credit for classes in the subject.
  2. Final credit in the subject is carried out in the form established in the subject syllabus, subject to the possibility of its change depending on the current epidemiological situation.
  3. During one day, the Student may take an exam or get a grade for one subject only.
  4. In the event of an unsatisfactory grade in the examination, the Student is entitled to two retake examinations. The first or second retake date, at the Student's request, may be a commission examination. The commission examination is extraordinary and cannot be treated as an additional date.
  5. The positive grade obtained in the exam is final. The retake examination in order to improve the obtained positive grade is unacceptable.
  6. The thematic scope of the final credit in the subject includes materials from lectures, seminars and exercises, as well as from the current literature, compliant with the syllabus.
  7. Final credit for the course includes the verification of learning outcomes in terms of knowledge and skills. Therefore, the final grade in the subject takes into account the results of both the practical and theoretical exam (the percentage of participation is determined by the Head of the Unit in consultation with the Dean).
  8. Failure to obtain credit for a course in a subject or an unjustified absence of a Student at the examination within the prescribed period is equivalent to receiving a fail grade (applies to all examination dates).
  9. Final exam in the subject Anatomy consists of a practical and theoretical part.
  10. The condition for admission to the practical exam is obtaining credit for classes and seminars.
  11. The practical examination, with the Dean's consent, may be held before the examination session.
  12. The theoretical examination will be a written test examination carried out remotely at the university.
  13. During the examination, the Student is strictly forbidden to contact third parties in person or via electronic devices and to use auxiliary materials. Failure to comply with the rules is the basis for stopping the exam, which is tantamount to receiving an unsatisfactory grade by the Student. This fact is recorded in the exam report by the Examiner.
  14. The Head of the Unit realizing the subject may establish the possibility of taking the theoretical exam early, ie before the beginning of the examination session, for outstanding students. This group includes Students who obtained at least 4.51 from theoretical and above 75% from practical test (the sum of the marks for all the dates of completion)

The condition for passing the theoretical exam in advance is obtaining a credit for the course in the subject. The grade obtained in the early exam is the final grade.

 

VI. Rules for determining the final grade for the subject

The final grade for the subject Anatomy is issued on the basis of the results of both parts of the exam (practical and theoretical). It is a weighted average of the grades obtained from the practical exam (weight 0.3) and the theoretical exam (weight 0.7).

100% - 90% very good, bdb (5.0)

89% - 85% more than good, pdb (4.5)

84% - 80% good, db (4.0)

79% - 75% more than satisfactory, ddb (3.5)

74% - 60% satisfactory, dst (3.0)

59% - 0%   unsatisfactory, ndst (2.0)

 

 

VII.         The manner and procedure for publishing the results and for viewing written papers during the semester

 

  • The results of exams and final grades are announced within 5 working days from the date of their completion in the University's IT system.
  • Pursuant to the SUM Study Regulations (par. 24 item 1), the Student has the right to access his / her assessed final or examination paper, along with the content of the questions and the answer key, within 5 working days from the announcement of the results of the final exam or examination.

 

VIII.       Principles of consultation with an academic teacher

 

Consultations with an academic teacher take place in accordance with the schedule available on the Unit's website http://anatomia-zabrze.sum.edu.pl

 

IX. Current administrative matters related to didactics

 

  • Matters related to teaching, including, for example, submitting an application for homework, should be handled electronically;

  • Electronic correspondence with employees and SUM entities should be made from the student's e-mail account.
  • The student is obliged to read messages directed to his account in the domain
    s… .. @ 365.sum.edu.pl.

 

X.   Disputes and issues not included in these regulations will be settled in accordance with the applicable regulations of studies at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, constituting Appendix No. 1 to Resolution No. 37/2024 of the Senate of SUM of June 18, 2024.

XI. Depending on the current epidemic situation and the resulting Regulations of the Rector of SUM, it is possible to change the mode and form of conducting classes, credits and exams.
